Short curriculum
With a Degree in Biology from the University of Barcelona and PhD in Biology from the Uni­versitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Dr Arboix joined the Department of Pharmacology in the Faculty of Medicine at the UAB in 1976 and in 1985 she began teaching on degree courses in veterinary medicine.

Her teaching and research career has focussed on the area of pharmacology and in 1993 she was made a full professor of the UAB. Within that area, her research has concentrated mainly on veterinary pharmacology (infectious and parasitic diseases), co-directing the consolidated research group Clinical and Therapeutic Parasitology (UAB and UB). As part of that work she formed part of the European Committee on Veterinary Medicine of the European Medicines Agency from 1999 to 2006, she chaired the European Group for Antimicrobial Resistance from 2001 to 2004), and she was a member of the Expert Panel on Animal Feed Additives of the European Food Security Agency from 2003 to 2007 and the Scientific Committee of the Spanish Food Security and Nutrition Agency from 2003 to 2008.

She has published more than 100 articles in specialised journals and books and has taken part on over 40 grant-assisted programmes in public institutions and private companies both in Spain and abroad. These have resulted in a large number of scientific publications and 15 PhD theses. In 1995 she created the Drug Analysis Service, which today forms part of the Technological Innovation Support Centres Network.

In parallel, at the UAB she has been Vice-Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Director of the Department of Pharmacology, Therapeutics and Toxicology. Chair of the Teaching and Research Staff Council and a member of numerous other committees. During this time she was also a member of the Board of Directors of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education(1992-1995).

In October 2000 she joined the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products of the Ministry for Health and Consumer Affairs. In 2005 she was appointed as Director of Regional Health Services in Barcelona (Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya). In 2010 she returned to Madrid to head the General Directorate for Agriculture and Husbandry of the Ministry for the Environment, Rural and Marine Zones, returning to the Universitat Autònoma de Bar­celona on 1 January 2012.

Over the years, even when her professional life has taken her to other public institutions, she has remained in contact with the UAB, teaching on the degree course in veterinary medicine and supervising doctoral theses.

Rafael Rebollo - Secretari general

Brief Curriculum Vitae
Professor (with full-professor accreditation) in Criminal Law at the Department of Political Science and Public Law, UAB Faculty of Law. He is a member of the Criminal Policy Study Group and of the International Association of Criminal Law. Additionally, he forms part of the editorial committee and acts as an external assessor for a number of journals and periodical publications. He has been a lawyer at the Constitutional Court.

Dr Rebollo’s research focusses on economic criminal law, the media and criminal law, and probation and measures of security. His participation in a range of Spanish and Latin-American research projects has resulted in a considerable academic output as reflected in numerous articles and books. He is also a frequent conference speaker at and collaborator with Latin-American universities, and has been visiting lecturer with the Faculty of Law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (Chile), with the Faculty of Law at the University of Santo Tomas (Colombia) and with the Faculty of Law at the National University of El Salvador.

As regards administrative responsibilities at the UAB, Rafael Rebollo has been coordinator of the doctoral programme and of the bachelors’ degree in Law, Assistant Dean at the Faculty of Law, and both secretary and director of the Department of Political Science and Public Law.

Tenured lecturer in Business Economics in the Department of Business Studies. He was the Head of the Department of Business Studies from 2005 to 2008, Coordinator of the Degree in Business Administration and Management and Business Administration and Management in English from 2012 to 2015, Secretary of the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies from 2013 to 2015, Secretary of the Department in 1999, member of the Senate, of the Faculty Board and Executive Commission of the Department and patron of the Business and Science Foundation (UAB).

He has been involved in different research projects and groups, including the consolidated Business Efficiency and Competitivity group. His own line of research is company management and corporate control mechanisms. He has acted as an evaluator of ANEP (the Spanish national agency for evaluation and futurology) and a member of different academic associations. He has carried out research at the University of Tilburg with a grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, and at the London Business School.

He has taken part in 10 research projects. His main teaching area is economic analysis of organisation. He has been a member of the Academic Council of the university’s School for Tourism and Hotel Management and different academic committees. He has been a guest lecturer on postgraduate courses at the University of Lima and also PhD courses at the Instituto Tecnológico de Monterrey and St. Kliment Ohridski University in Macedonia as part of the Tempus project, funded by the European Union.

Tenured lecturer in the Department of Modern and Contemporary History. He is coordinator of the interuniversity Master’s degree in Contemporary History. He was Secretary of the Department of Modern and Contemporary History from 2003 to 2005 and Head of the department from 2005 to 2010, member of the Governing Council of the UAB from 2005 to 2010 and, since 2005, he has been a member of the Faculty Board in the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts.

His research centres on fascism during the inter-war period, particularly on ideological aspects, as well as educational policy and the youth of fascist regimes. He has also been involved in the history of intellectuals during the Second Spanish Republic and the Franco regime, as well as other aspects of the Spanish Civil War. As part of his research he was also a guest lecturer at New York State University in 2012.

As a researcher he has taken part in 10 funded research projects, five of which as principal researcher. Since 2009 he has coordinated the consolidated research group Republic and Democracy Study Group (2014 SGR 1261). He is also a founding member of the Interuniversity Seminar for Researchers in Fascism (SIdIF). He was Secretary and is currently Editor of the journal Rubrica Contemporanea. He has acted as an evaluator for the Grant Management Agency for Universities and Research of the Catalan government (AGAUR), as well as the main Spanish academic journals in his field of expertise. In 1993 he obtained second prize in the National Education Awards for academic research and educational innovation from the Ministry for Education and Science. He has written four books based on his research and edited five more, and has published more than 40 articles and book chapters.

He is a member of the consolidated Cell Survival Mechanisms research group and a member of the Centres for Networked Biomedical Research (CIBERNED) network. He has been a member of the UAB Senate for 25 years and an elected member of the Board for Teaching and Research Staff since 1996. He was director of the Institute of Neurosciences (Nc) from 2009 to 2016, head of the Unit of medical Biochemistry from 1997 to 2002, Head of the Departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from 2002 to 2008, a member of the academic Staff Committee from 1996 to 2008 and a member of the joint committee for drawing up the document Adjustment criteria for teaching and research staff at the UAB in 2012. He was a member of the writing team for the General policy guidelines for teaching staff 1998/2002, approved by the Senate.

He has supervised nine PhD theses and taken part in more than 25 R&D projects with competitive funding, in 12 of which he was the principal researcher, and in 12 R&D agreements. His research centres on the characterisation of neurotrophic action produced by different non-toxic fragments of clostridial neurotoxins and the evaluation of their therapeutic capacity in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. He has published more than 50 indexed articles in specialised journals and has presented three patents, one of which has been transferred.

Professor of Inorganic Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry of the UAB. His teaching work has centred on the undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in inorganic chemistry and materials science. For many years his research was in the field of coordination chemistry and organometallic chemistry. Currently his research is focused on nanochemistry and specifically on the synthesis and application of nanoparticles of metals and metallic oxides.

He has been a member of the Permanent Board of the Faculty of Science, Head of the Department of Chemistry, head of the Unite of Inorganic Chemistry of the Department of Chemistry of the UAB, coordinator for the Degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, a member of the Pre-project Writing Committee for the UAB Statures, a member of the Pre-project Writing Committee for the Regulation of the UAB Senate, and also a member of the Senate.

He has taken part in around 25 research projects in the areas of chemistry and nanotechnology. He is co-author of around 200 scientific publications and has supervised or co-supervised 20 PhD theses. Degree in Philosophy, Degree in History and PhD in Anthropology, she is a tenured lecturer in Anthropology at the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology of the UAB. She teaches subjects on both undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses related to her area of speciality, History of Anthropology. Her research and publications are centred on three main lines: the systematisation of thought of certain classic authors in the discipline, the historical study of anthropological concepts and the reading of ethnographic texts as disciplinary texts.

In terms of university management she has been successively, and among other posts held, Secretary and Head of Department, coordinator of the State Committee for the Degree in Anthropology (CEGA) and the Anthropology Professionalisation Committee (CPA).

Degree (1978) and PhD in Medicine and Surgery (1985) awarded by the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, Dr Armengol has been Full Professor of Surgery since 1995, a position that is institutionally linked to that of Head of the General and Digestive Surgery Service at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital.

He has been dean of the Faculty of Medicine (2012-2017), coordinator of the Teaching Unit at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (2008-2012), director of the Department of Surgery (2000-2008), assistant coordinator and coordinator of the Degree in Medicine (1996-2000), and vice-dean and coordinator of the Erasmus Programme for the Faculty of Medicine (1991-1996).

His research is centred on general and digestive surgery and, most particularly, on abdominal wall surgery (biomaterials, wound healing and the extracellular matrix), colorectal cancer, endocrine surgery (thyroid cancer) and morbid obesity. Coordinator of the General Surgery Research Group (AGAUR 2014 SGR 1075 SRCG-VHIR), Dr Armengol has participated in over 20 competitive research projects at Spanish and European levels, in many of these as Principal Investigator. He has supervised 66 doctoral theses, and is the author of 172 indexed publications and over 100 chapters in books and specialist monographic studies.

In the ambits of healthcare and hospital administration, he was resident physician (MIR) for General and Digestive Surgery at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital (1979-1982), adjunct physician (1983-1992) and head of section (1992-1993) with the General and Digestive Surgery Service at the Germans Trias i Pujol University Hospital, where he was head of on-call physicians (1984-1993). He was head of section (1993) and (from 1994) has been head of service with the General and Digestive Surgery Service at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, where he was also the coordinating physician for General Surgery (1998-2015) and Healthcare Sub-director with the Area of Surgical Specialisations, General Area, and sub-director of Surgical Processes (2000-2015).

From 2011-2012, Dr Armengol was president of the Special Committee for Health Sciences at AQU (the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency) and has been evaluator for AGAUR (the Catalan Agency for the Management of University and Research Grants), FIS (Health Research Funding) and ANECA-ACADEMIA (the university-teaching curricular evaluation and accreditation programme of the Spanish Quality-Assurance and Accreditation Agency). He is Corresponding Academician of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Catalonia (2013).

Professor of Animal Production in the Department of Animal and Food Science of the UAB. He is Head of the Department of Animal Genetics and Deputy Director of the Agrigenomics Research Centre (CRAG, the CSIC-IRTA-UAB-UB consortium), Director of the Molecular Genetics Veterinary Service (SVGM), member of the TECNIO d’ACC1O network, leader of the consolidated research group Veterinary Molecule Genetic Improvement and founder of Vetgenomics, the first new technology-based company (NEBT) of the UAB.

He is an elected member of the Senate, of the Governing Council and of the Knowledge Transfer and Strategic Projects Committee of the UAB. He has been a member of the Teaching and Research Staff Board, Vice Dean of the Faculty of veterinary medicine, Head of the Department of Animal and Food Science and rector’s delegate for Personnel and Relations with Social Agents (2002-2008).

He has supervised 19 PhD theses and taken part in 32 projects both at home and in Europe in the area of animal genomics, as well as being responsible for more than 70 R&D agreements with companies and government agencies. His research centres on the genetic characterisation of characters of productive interest and on the development of new analytical tools for veterinary molecular diagnosis. He has been a member of the Spanish national Evaluation Commission for Research Activity (CNEAI) and Deputy Chair of the Spanish Genetics Society.

Professor of Chemical Engineering at the School of Engineering of the UAB. He is Director of the Technology Centre for the Comprehensive Treatment of Gas Emissions, and Liquid and Solid Waste (BIO-GLS), a member of the TECNIO d’ACC1O network and head of the consolidated research group on Treatment of Liquid and Gas Waste  (GENOCOV). He has spent research periods at Massachusetts Institute of Technolo­gy, the University of California and the Illinois Institute of Technology.

He was Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering from 2004-2010. He is a member of different evaluation committees for teaching staff and research projects. He has coordinated the Chemical Engineering degree and has been rector’s delegate at the University School for the Environment (EUPMA) in Mollet del Vallès. He has also been a member of the Finance and Organisation, and International Committees.

He has supervised 15 PhD theses and has taken part in 25 projects both at home and in Europe in the areas of biotechnology and, especially, environment. He has also taken part in more than 50 R&D agreements with companies and government agencies and has been the leading researcher in 30 of them. His research is centred on environmental engineering and, more specifically, on the design and use of biological systems for the treatment of gas and liquid waste. As a result of this activity he has published more than 130 indexed articles.

Projects manager in the Computer Service of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He has been a member of the Senate, the Finance and Organisation Committee and the Social Responsibility Committee and also chair of the Works Committee for administration and services staff of the UAB.

As a member of the Computer Service he has been responsible for implementing the system of supplying operating systems and desktop applications and has actively participated in the first national e-wallet project which has taken place at the UAB in collaboration with ”la Caixa” as part of the intelligent cards management initiative. He has also taken part in multilayer server projects for managing self-service administrative tasks using the electronic window at the UAB, among other projects.

Recently, as part of the systems management team, he has carried out an energy efficiency improvement project in the Data Processing Centre.

Carme Nogués is a Tenured Lecturer in Cell Biology at the Faculty of Biosciences of the UAB and member of the consolidated research group of the Cell Biology Unit. She has undertaken research stays at the Catholic University of Leuven, in Belgium, and at A&M University, Texas, USA.

She has headed the Cell Biology Unit on several occasions, and has been Head of Academic Planning (1987-1990), Financial Affairs Coordinator (1996-2002) and Secretary of the Department of Cell Biology, Physiology and Immunology (2000-2004 and 2006).

She has taken part in twenty national and international research projects, six of which as principal researcher. Her research focuses on the development of different cell culture systems (static, dynamic, three-dimensional, etc.) for studying new materials and devices of interest in biomedicine.  She has published over sixty indexed articles based on this research activity.

Tenured lecturer in the Department of Applied Pedagogy. He is Coordinator of the Unit of Research and Diagnostic Methods in Education in the Department of Applied Pedagogy. He has been an elected member of the Senate during different mandates, coordinator of the Degree in Social Education for six years, Vice Dean of Academic Regulations and Dean of the Faculty of Education. During his time as dean he was also deputy chair of the Spanish Congress of Deans and Heads of Teaching and Education.

He was a member of the Schools Council of Catalonia as a professional of recognised prestige in the field of education and works with a number of different institutions such as the Education and Justice departments of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Diputació de Barcelona, different local governments and the Jaume Bofill Foundation, as well as numerous primary and secondary schools, among others.

Short curriculum
Professor of Animal Production at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the UAB. She studied Veterinary Medicine at the University of Leon and holds a PhD from the Institute of Agricultural Research in Saragossa. She was a tenured lecturer at the University of Murcia and is now the principal researcher in the consolidated research group Biotechnology of Reproduction in Farm Animal Species (BRER). She has focused her research on the production of in vitro embryos in small ruminants, and in recent years she has centred on studies of biomarkers of follicular oocyte quality. After obtaining her diploma from the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR) she was a member of its examination committee from 2005 to 2011.

She was Vice Dean of Studies at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine from 1987 to 1990, Head of the Department of Animal Pathology and Production from 1994 to 1998, rector’s delegate for Continuing Professional Development from 2004 to 2009, a member of the Senate of the UAB from 1994 to 2016, a member of the Board of Governors of the UAB from 1994 to 1998 and a member of the Board for Teaching and Research Staff from 2000 to 2016.

Since 1989 she has uninterruptedly been the principal researcher for 9 projects within the National Plan for Research and Development and has participated in more than 30 national and International research projects in the field of animal husbandry. As a result of her research activity she has published over 65 indexed articles. She has been an assessor for the ANECA, ANEP and AGAUR, and has formed part of evaluation committees for projects of the EU, CICYT, Ramón y Cajal and Juan de la Cierva. She has spent research periods in France (INRA), Great Britain (Grassland Research Institute, Royal Veterinary College of the University of London), the USA (University of Georgia at Athens, University of California at Davis) and Italy (University of Sassari).

Tenure-track lecturer in the Department of Sociology of the UAB and researcher in the Centre for Sociological Studies on Everyday Life and Work (QUIT-UAB) and the Institute for Labour Studies (IET-UAB). She was Vice Dean of Professionalization (2009-2015) and Vice Dean of Institutional Relations (2015-2016) at the Faculty of Political Science and Sociology of the UAB.

Her academic career began in 2002 when she was a grantholding trainee researcher (FPI) in QUIT. In September 2007 defended her PhD thesis “Time, work and welfare: an approach from everyday life”, which merited the Special Prize of the Department of Sociology. Over the years she has spent a pre-doctoral research period at the Cambio research centre of the University of Florence and a postdoctoral research period at the Centre for International Business Studies at the University of the South Bank in London.

Her lines of research and transfer are framed within the sociological field of work, the sociology of time and the sociology of gender. Specifically, she specialises in the analysis of work, time and everyday life, with a focus on social inequalities, welfare and public policies. As a researcher she has been continually involved in competitive research projects and has directed and taken part in research and transfer agreements in collaboration with leading public and private institutions in the field of social sciences, such as the Institute of Statistics for Catalonia (IDESCAT), the Catalan Institute for Women, the Institute of Regional and Metropolitan Studies of Barcelona, the ”La Caixa” Foundation and the Jaume Bofill Foundation, among others. She has several articles published and is a reviewer for specialised journals in her areas of knowledge, has been an evaluator for competitive projects, been a panel member for research prizes and is a member of the Sociology of Labour Research Committee of the Spanish Sociology Federation.

Professor of Spanish Language in the Department of Spanish Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts of the UAB. He has been a member of the ANECA Group of Experts for the Accreditation of University Lecturers and Professors (Academia programme) since 2010. He is a member of the writing, scientific and assessment committees for several collections and periodicals.

He was Vice Dean for Teaching Staff and Students from 1999 to 2002 and Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts from 2003 to 2005. He is currently a member of the Senate of the UAB where he has had a seat since 1999.

He has supervised three PhD theses and taken part in 11 competitive state projects continually in 1992, and in eight agreements with prestigious institutions since 2000, for some of which he was the leading researcher. His research centres on the diachrony of the Spanish language, principally syntax. He has 70 academic publications to his name as a result of his research.

Tenured lecturer in Audiovisual Communication and Advertising at the Faculty of Communication of the UAB, where she was Vice Dean from 2010 to 2015. She was Deputy Head of the Department of Audiovisual Communication from 2006 to 2009 and an elected member of the Board for Teaching and Research Staff from 2005 to 2009. She was also coordinator of the Image exams for the university entrance exams (PAU) from 2006 to 2009 and has been the coordinator of Audiovisual Culture for the PAU since 2010. Jaume Tintoré graduated from the University of Barcelona in 1985, with a degree in Education (specialising in Psychology). He has taken the General Management Program and the Human Resources Management Program at IESE Business School, and the General Function Program at ESADE.

From 2004 to 2016, he occupied different executive positions at Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), in particular the following: Director General (2014-2016), Director General of Barcelona Transport and Leisure Transport (2011-2014), and Deputy Director General of Corporate Services and Human Resources (2006-2011).

From 2000 to 2004, he was Secretary General of the Catalonia Audiovisual Council. Previously, he held several positions of responsibility in the Government of Catalonia (Generalitat):  Deputy Director General for Union Relations, at the Civil Service Directorate General (1996-2000), Head of Union Relations Services (1994-1996), and specialist advisor to the Directorate General of Prison Services and Rehabilitation (1991-1994).

Degree in Political Science and Sociology (International Relations route) from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (1989), and has a postgraduate diploma in Business Communication from the Continuing Education Institute of Pompeu Fabra University (2001) and a Master’s degree in University Management and Direction from the  Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya Foundation (2005).

She has worked at the UAB since April 1997, where she was responsible for academic management audits and the ISO Quality System for the Libraries Service until January 2000, and Head of the Institutional Coordination Office from February 2000 to January 2009. Since November 2011 she has been the centre administrative manager for the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts and the Faculty of Psychology.

She also worked as a documentalist, writer and trainer at the CIDOB Foundation (Centre for International information and Documentation) from 1989 to 1993 and as manager of the non-profit organisation, the UNESCO Centre of Catalonia where she worked from January 2009 to October 2011 on projects funded by competitive bids on an autonomous region, state and European scale.
