Introduction

The joint PhD programme in Electrochemistry - Science and Technology is an interuniversity programme coordinated by the University of Alicante (UA) which is offered simultaneously in 11 Spanish universities and which is doted with the Award towards Excellence. It aims to give future researchers the knowledge and experience necessary for carrying out leading basic and applied research in the area of electrochemistry.

Candidate profile

The recommended student profile is that of a graduate in science or engineering, who also has a master's degree that includes advanced training in electrochemistry. Ideally this would be a master's degree in Electrochemistry. Science and Technology.

Students must at least be able to read and completely understand scientific articles written in English, but ideally should also be able to converse fluently with native speakers and write clear scientific texts.

The principal career options for students who obtain their PhD on this programme lie in electrochemistry research, in the academic world or in industry.

Objectives and justification

The objective of this PhD programme is to give students profound knowledge of the subject of electrochemistry. Electrochemistry has a strong presence in most of the products we use or consume regularly (batteries, accumulators, metal coverings, the production of metals such as aluminium, zinc or nickel, sewage treatment and many more things). This justifies the need for specific and high level training.

The research groups carry out intensive activity in the field with excellent relations with the companies and with foreign research groups, facilitating their future employment in both businesses and research centres.

Research infrastructure

Besides the physical resources for teaching and research that the UAB provides for all its PhD programmes, students on this programme can also make use of the following research infrastructures.

  • Electrochemical microelectrolysis systems (high and low speeds of variation and potential).
  • Electrochemical macroelectrolysis systems (potential and controlled intensity).
  • Spectrum-electrochemistry equipment.
  • Gas chromatograph.
